Su Spector
Director

When she produced "Juliet & Juliet," Su Spector was a senior at a Houston, Texas area high school, and is now enrolled in UCLA majoring in Political Science and planning on a film minor.  She has been making movies since she was in middle school, having started off by making videos documenting her family’s vacations. Su has since dedicated herself to the craft to progress to making documentaries, short films, and animations. She believes education is the first step to making our country better. Her next project is a documentary aimed at audiences her age, exploring the issue of gun control in Texas. Her dream is to run for president in 2036.

Juliette & Juliette

After reminiscing over old pictures, Suzy finds a long-forgotten box. When she opens it, she unlocks memories of a lost love from her youth.

Director Statement

"Juliet & Juliet" is a film I pursued in order to challenge myself as a writer and director. It addresses adolescent relationships, but it adds more of the complexities that we see today in society. And rather than lead the viewer to a specific, singular conclusion, which this film sort of does, it also opens the door for further conversation on matters of significance in the world we live in today.

"Su was the rock in my advanced moviemaking course who I could always rely on to lead the team to make things happen. She elevated and pushed everyone she collaborated with, learning and growing every step of the way.

What’s most impressive about Su is how she uses film to explore things meaningful to her. And she was able to do that in this film. I’m honored to have been a part of her growth as an artist and I know this is only the beginning.

I’m looking forward to voting for her in 2036! ❤ Friend, dancer, artist, future president, Su Spector."

Gabe Boudtchenko
Director

At the time of the production of "Gay Sexuality Awareness Club," Gabe was a 7th Grader at Jane Lathrop Stanford Middle School in Palo Alto, California. He has enjoyed filming and creating ideas ever since he laid his hands on an old camcorder. He felt happiness from filming and editing short home movies and presenting them to his family. Since then he has been learning the art of video editing and how to tell a compelling story. In his rare free time, he likes to experiment with different CGI effects for fun. Gabriel's lifelong dream is to work in film and create something that will be remembered.

Gender Sexuality Awareness Club

"Gender Sexuality Awareness Club" is a short documentary about spreading awareness and kindness through the Gender Sexuality Awareness Club at Jane Lathrop Stanford Middle School, including the inspiring backstory behind the GSA Club, featuring Mary Melnick (founder) and Ryan Dyer (student) both answering questions and sharing about the club's impact.

"Gabe is an amazingly talented filmmaker since he was in 7th grade! He was always curious about improving his filmmaking skills and did a great job learning new techniques. I share with the students to find a purpose to what they want to film, bring the story out. 'What is the purpose of your film?'

I am so proud and glad that Gabe was able to find that purpose by supporting the LGBTQ+ community and letting their stories be heard. Well done Gabe, keep reaching for your dreams and goals.

Become a filmmaker that shares a message to make an impact and change the world for the better. I will always be here to support and cheer you on! Director Gabe Boudtchenko!"

OUR PRIDE Video Fest includes a collaborative blended-learning education program, with participants connecting locally, across time zones and around the world with one another to experience the different cultural environments and challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people in other cities and countries. OUR PRIDE supports California's recently mandated inclusive education initiative SB 48 FAIR (Fair, Accurate, Inclusive, and Respectful), which requires courses to be non-discriminatory and to integrate factual information about social movements, current events, and history of LGBTQ+ people into instruction.
