Seeking student-produced short films that tell an inspirational story about significant LGBTQ+ people, places, & historical contributions to society.

  • Deadline to submit is August 31, 2022
  • Tell an inspirational story about LGBTQ+ people, places, & historical contributions
  • Film format can be documentary, PSA, creative fiction, music video, or animation 
  • Entries can be submitted by a team of students or a solo student 
  • Films must be 5 minutes or less & 5GB or less

The struggles and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community are components of the civil rights movement, yet many of these stories remain untold.  Films should draw attention to LQBTQ+ issues, solutions, and historical events that have shaped our world and are impacting our collective future. Cross-generational personal stories that showcase friends, family, or community leaders are highly encouraged in some of these main categories: Our Tribe, Community, History, Arts, Issues, and Spirit.

Submissions can range from 90 seconds to five minutes and are judged by a panel of education and LGBTQ+ professionals. Winning entries will be announced in September with screenings throughout the year, including the International Children’s Film Festival at Comic-Con in San Diego. The top film entries will receive a variety of awards, prizes and commendations. struggles and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community are components of the civil rights movement.

OUR ARTS: Videos showcasing music, theater, dance, sculpture, painting, poetry, festivals and other artistic expression of the community.

2022 THEME: "LOVE WINS! Compassion, Resilience & Solidarity," with entries highlighting compassion, resilience and solidarity in the global LGBTQIA+ community, featuring such topics as Social Justice, Human Rights, Current Issues, Mental Health, Personal Stories, Local Pride, LGBTQIA+ Community & History.   Social Justice issues highlight: Amnesty / Immigration, Disability Justice, Economic Justice, Environmental Justice, Gender Justice, Health Justice, Racial Justice, and Reproductive Justice.

YOUTH SHOWCASE

Launched in 2016, the OUR PRIDE Video Fest features a YOUTH SHOWCASE of 1-15 minute videos, produced along with OUR PRIDE EDU, a collaborative blended-learning educational program for YOUTH (ages 18 & under).  

​
Youth participants work in teams or solo to create video entries running 1 to 15 minutes in a variety of categories, such as Documentary Short, Narrative Short, Animated Short, Social Video Series, News, PSA, and Music Video, incorporating original music, poetry and other creative content. 
​Check out the 2021 YOUTH SHOWCASE Winning Entry: "Discovering May" produced by Portola High School students in Irvine, California.  Synopsis: Struggling with her identity as a young child, May begins to explore her true self. Through this film, we follow her journey as she discovers and embraces who she is, a woman.
