Rainbow Advocacy Press

Amplifying LGBTQ+ voices through storytelling, poetry, and global perspectives grounded in dignity and human rights.

Rainbow Advocacy Press is the publishing and storytelling arm of Rainbow Advocacy, dedicated to advancing dignity, cultural memory, and human rights through books and related creative work.

The Press exists to support writers, artists, and community voices whose work contributes meaningfully to justice, reflection, and global solidarity—especially stories that are often marginalized, overlooked, or at risk of erasure.

Publishing is one way our mission takes shape. Our books and storytelling projects are developed in alignment with Rainbow Advocacy’s broader programs and partnerships.

Why a Publishing Program

Storytelling has always been central to liberation movements. Books preserve memory, shape conscience, and travel across borders in ways that events and statements cannot.

Rainbow Advocacy Press was created to ensure that important stories connected to LGBTQ+ history, identity, and human rights are published with care, context, and long-term responsibility. Publishing is not treated as content production alone, but as cultural stewardship.

What We Publish

Rainbow Advocacy Press supports works that align with our mission and values, including:

  • Memoir, history, and lived experience

  • Poetry, literature, and creative nonfiction

  • Arts- and culture-based advocacy

  • Educational and reflective works connected to human rights

Our focus is not volume, but depth. Each project is developed intentionally, with respect for the author’s voice and the communities represented.

How the Press Works

Rainbow Advocacy Press operates within a nonprofit framework.

Publishing projects are selected and developed in alignment with Rainbow Advocacy’s broader programs and partnerships. Proceeds from Press publications help sustain creative work and, where appropriate, support related community initiatives.

We prioritize:

  • Ethical publishing practices

  • Transparent collaboration with authors

  • Respect for cultural and historical context

  • Long-term availability over short-term visibility

Connection to Our Programs

The Press is deeply connected to Rainbow Advocacy’s other work.

Stories developed through Pride in Action (OUR PRIDE), Flag50, and community partnerships may find a long-form home through publishing. In turn, published works help extend the life and reach of creative and educational initiatives.

Publishing is one way the ecosystem sustains itself.

Looking Ahead

Rainbow Advocacy Press is intentionally small and focused. As the world approaches pivotal milestones—including the 50th anniversary of the rainbow flag—the Press is committed to publishing work that supports reflection, responsibility, and dialogue across generations.

We believe books can do more than document the past. They can help shape the future.

Rainbow Advocacy Press exists to carry stories forward—with care, clarity, and purpose.

Publishing is one way we collaborate with writers, artists, and community partners.
