Shishani is a multi award-winning and internationally touring artist whose versatility in music transcends genres and cultures. Shishani’s work expresses a strong sense of social consciousness and intersects between multidisciplinary performances and research. Shishani has founded various projects highlighting globally marginalized perspectives offering inspiring counter narratives through their work with Namibian Tales, Sisterhood, Shakuar and Miss Catharsis. Shishani's new album "Whispers" focuses on mental wellbeing. | Shishani’s musical research focuses on Namibia’s cultural heritage merging influences from Namibia into an original mix of influences from Africa, soul, RnB, hiphop, jazz, indie and folk music. Shishani is Namibia-born, Amsterdam-based. Through their work, these worlds come together. Art & Activism
Shishani has spearheaded various initiatives throughout the years. In 2010, they initiated a multidisciplinary stage in Amsterdam called ‘Cinnamon Wednesdays’ which was run by six young cross-cultural women until 2012. This stage hosted some of today’s trailblazers in the Dutch cultural landscape. In 2014, Shishani founded ARTNAM (2014) which aimed at promoting Namibian Arts nationally & internationally.
Shishani has frequently performed at demonstrations and protests for human rights and climate justice. Their song “Clean Country” (2012) became the anthem for the Campaign Against Nuclear Waste in Namibia. Their song “Minority'“ became the anthem for queer movement in Namibia.
“Forget To Remember” is becoming an anthem for social justice. Shishani continues to create art where inclusivity and awareness are fundamental pillars of her work.
